Music and Emotion
Boris and the Festival were pleased to receive this touching poem from an enthusiastic patron following the Dec. 12 performance of Handel’s Messiah at St. Christopher’s in Burlington. Mr. Blokhuis says he was born in the bi-centennial year of Messiah’s composition and he “never gets tired of hearing it again. May the music never stop!” Thank you for sharing your poetry, Mr. Blokhuis!
Music and Emotion
By Art Blokhuis
"If you love music, why then cry?
And why persist that you should hear..."
The truth is you don't have an ear,
You're much too young to hear Earth's sigh.
Some day you'll listen, then you'll hear,
It's not technique nor melody
But glorious Life itself, you'll see
And understand with a new ear.
Life sorrowful, life infinite,
How beautiful, unbearably:
A joy that weeps Earth's tears, you'll see
Eternal balm contained in it.
Such music comes from Father's hand.
Listen, be still, now understand.
