An excellent, highly engaging introduction to the instruments of the orchestra. Many pieces of music, old and new were inspired by animals and Maestro Brott and the National Academy perform them today, with live projections on the musicians projected on a large screen behind the orchestra. Students will learn about mood and colour and the images that music has the power to conjure up. We are thrilled to present the world premiere of Canadian composer Omar Daniel's brand new Canadian Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra based on variations of the French Canadian folk song – Alouette! Your students will ROAR with delight!

Hamilton Place, Great Hall   directions
Jan Lisiecki | young Beethoven
Peter Duschenes | Adult Beethoven

Ludwig van Beethoven - even this young genius who would grow up to become the world's most famous composer had to grapple with an issue that remains urgent even today: bullying. Be inspired as young Ludwig deals with the taunts and isolation bullying brings by escaping into his music and we hear some of the most famous works he composed in his career. Jan Lisiecki – the 13-year old Canadian piano prodigy performs and portrays young Ludwig as a student and Peter Duschesnes the older Beethoven. Maestro Brott leads us on Beethoven's journey and triumph over the bullies in his life and relates it even to his own life and how we can put an end to bullying in today's schoolyards and parks. This concert is a perfect marriage of music and a most important social issue. Book today!

"A remarkable and lasting impression on our students. Boris has an amazing understanding of the needs and attention requirements of children.... They were engaged from beginning to end."
Colvin, Hitherfield Preparatory
"Mr. Brott knows how to reach children and attending one of his education concerts is still part of my childhood memories. I have taken my children to every one of the Brott Educational series. Even if the school couldn't attend, I would take them out of class. The series isn't just about music. It is the 'perfect storm' of education: combining music, culture, history other art forms. I cannot say enough about this series."
Julie Sampson Shea, mother
"This being our first time to ever attend a symphony we had our "socks knocked off"! It was AMAZING. Please tell Boris that it was a phenomenal experience and we enjoyed it immensely. The performers were all so talented. What a thrill to see, feel and hear the instruments as they played and voices as they sang."
Lindsay Boyle
"As Maestro Brott and the National Academy Orchestra demonstrated, music provides a sense of involvement and a welcome atmosphere to students. Furthermore, much like sports, instrumental music provides many options. There are many instruments for students to choose from (similar to the positions in sports). Boris Brott and the National Academy Orchestra allowed students to listen to the various sections of the orchestra. Our students are now very excited about choosing to play a instrument from trombone, to drums, to flute, to saxophone, etc!"
Mary Tessari, principal Holy Rosary School
